A general inspection from exterior to the interior is first. Finding and closing the entry points are the most important in providing effective rodent control. We look for areas around the windows, garage doors, utility lines, dryer vents, door thresholds, downspouts and the most common area, the construction gap. This is an area at the roof line left open for ventilation purposes and is the most common area of entry for rodents and squirrels. Other factors to consider are areas that provide water, food and harborage for the pests. Examples of these areas around the home that may provide this are overgrown vegetation, wood piles, wildlife feeders, creeks, streams, storage areas, crawlspaces, dog or cat feeding sites, attics, garages and other areas that may be found during inspection.  

 

Screening/Excluding
When excluding areas for rodent control it is important to use the proper gauge steel screening or sheet metal at areas of active or potential entry holes. This is securely fastened with screws to insure the prevention of any re-entry. Steel wool is also used in some areas to seal up entry holes.
